Talent: Saving 6 kilos of feed per finisher

Talent: Saving 6 kilos of feed per finisher

Genetic progress at full speed.

Talent boars at our Topigs Norsvin breeding farms have shown a steep improvement in feed conversion rate (FCR).

Over the past 3 years, FCR has improved by almost 6%. The FCR of boars tested at our breeding farms in the Netherlands and France was 2.10 in 2013 and 1.98 in 2016. Based on a finisher with 50% Talent genes, this means that in just 3 years a reduction in feed use of 6 kilos per finisher has been achieved.

Daily gain also improved

Not only the feed conversion has improved at the Talent breeding farms. In the period 2013-2016, the daily gain also improved by 6% and is now almost 1050 grams per day.
This fast genetic improvement of FCR and growth contribute to a more efficient and sustainable pig production. This is just one of the ways in which Topigs Norsvin contributes to the profitability of our customers’ pork production.

The data in this article are the average of about 3500 IFIR (individual feed intake registration) tested boars per year.
