Science at the Heart of Genetic Progress

We start with science. Researchers exploring the frontiers of genetics, health, nutrition, and climate impact. Every discovery becomes a decision. Every insight becomes an improvement. Science-driven, fact-based.

Responsible Breeding Through Research and Innovation

Explore our Research

From cutting-edge genomics to precision phenotyping and biotechnology, our multidisciplinary research platforms ensure that every genetic improvement is rooted in data, validated by evidence, and engineered for real-world performance.

1.

Genetics and Genomics

From genome to insight

Our goals in this platform are to develop tools and advanced statistical models within quantitative genetics and genomics to drive a world-leading sustainable genetic progress.

This includes the maximization of genomic information, integration of genome knowledge, and models to optimize utilization of phenotypic and biologic information.

2.

Reproduction

Improving reproductive success across generations

The Reproduction Platform at Topigs Norsvin focuses on improving fertility, reproductive efficiency, and the biological foundation for genetic progress across the breeding system. Its core goal is to optimize the quality and robustness of piglets and litters while ensuring efficient, scalable dissemination of genetics globally.

Health and Behavior

Breeding pigs that are resilient and thrive

The Health and Behavior Platform investigates the genetic basis of disease resilience, structural health, and animal behavior in modern production systems. By combining data collected in commercial environments, large-scale phenotyping, and advanced analytical approaches, the platform develops traits that reflect how pigs perform under biological and social stressors.

4.

Feed to Food

Bridging feeding strategies and nutritional needs to genetic potential, and genetic progress to food value.

The Feed to Food platform integrates nutrition science with carcass and meat quality research to help ensure that modern pigs convert feed into high-quality pork more efficiently and with lower environmental impact.

5.

Precision Phenotyping

From big data to deeper insight

Precision Phenotyping platform uses advanced technologies, such as CT scanning and sensors for automated data collection to improve data collection and develop novel traits for pig breeding.

Artificial intelligence (AI) is central to this platform, enabling the analysis of large, complex, multi-dimensional datasets that are challenging to interpret using traditional methods.

6.

Biotech

From genetic variation to biological understanding

The biotech platform is built at the intersection of functional genomics, molecular physiology, and advanced cell biology. It aims to discover mechanistic, cell-type-resolved, and genotype-aware biological knowledge that will contribute to our genetic progress in developing in vitro systems to understand and improve complex traits.
